Sunday Night Speech: Lisa Kristine: “Photos That Bear Witness to Modern Slavery”

This week’s speech comes courtesy of photographer Lisa Kristine. This TED Talk combines personal narrative with photos and videos to shed light on the manner and depth of modern slavery. According to Kristine, more than 27 million people are enslaved around the world, despite its illegality in every nation. The speech is admittedly hard to watch and hear, but it is a vital reminder of a too easily forgotten global plague. Many commenters to the speech on have noted that the speech stirs our emotions, but doesn’t do much to explain how modern slavery can be attacked or where the fault lies for its existence. Let’s agree that our awareness is the first step towards answering those questions. Below, we’ve included a link to the NGO that Kristine mentions throughout her speech. Thanks for reading, and have a great week.
