Sunday Night Speech: Bill Watterson (Creator of Calvin and Hobbes)

We’ve featured another Kenyon College commencement address in this slot before (do they sell tickets to those, do you think?), and though it’s subject matter is a little different, its tone and message definitely make it more immediately endearing.  In 1990, Bill Watterson, who created Calvin and Hobbes, the greatest comic strip of all time (and it isn’t close), delivered this short yet brilliant speech to a group of people who were sitting where he had been not too long before. See, Watterson too was a Kenyon graduate once upon a time, and so he knows a great deal about what these people have faced, and, more importantly, what they will face in their very near futures. Click here to read the speech.

Needless to say, I was a little older before I really “got” a lot of the more sophisticated strips.
